Description
Macao embraces Summer with The Sound of Music The Cultural Centre is pleased to present you the best family treat of all time, the musical that fills anyone's soul, bringing the joy of singing to every household. Based on the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp family, composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II created this definite family favourite that brims over with the most memorable songs ever. It is amazing how, still today, adults and children of all countries and nationalities love this musical, and how they know to hum and sing along with the unforgettable melodies of My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss or the glorious title song The Sound of Music. These songs conquered us especially thanks to Julie Andrews' captivating interpretation in the 1965 film adaptation. This 5-Oscar-winning motion picture remains the most popular movie musical in cinema history, and who doesn't recall watching it over and over again?
When Maria, a postulant, proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as a governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.
With more than 2000 performances straddling over hundreds of cities, the 8-Tony-award winning musical The Sound of Musiccontinues to flourish. In 2004, it toured China for the first time presenting over 100 shows, and in the following year, it was received with the same rapturous success in Hong Kong. Now, The Sound of Music heads to Macao with its all-American cast, beautifully crafted grand stage sets and live orchestra, celebrating with us their China Tour grand finale, touching hearts of all ages with its beloved songs.
